When Is The Best Time To Double Down? – The Return of the Double-Breasted Suit
Modern Man of Today
It has been decades since the double-breasted suit was suitable business attire. Not since Gordon Gecko rocked the light grey double-breasted suit at his dinner party in the Hamptons in Wall St. has the DB Suit been totally acceptable in anything other than very fashion forward gatherings. But like so many things in fashion that make a comeback years later, including tapered pants which had a much longer shelf life the second time around than anyone would have imagined, the double-breasted suit made a big splash on the runways of the Spring fashion shows and may also be making an appearance at an office near you.
Although the traditional jacket has been given a new lease on life the cuts of the blazers have been anything but traditional. Some of the trends include double pockets, shorter lengths, and wider lapels. Some of the old rules may have been broken with the double-breasted suits recent revival but the colors have gone back to the ol’ guard with greys and blues being the colors of choice this spring making them more than acceptable at even the most sophisticated of board rooms.
As usual, just when you thought fashion would only go so far it pushes the envelope a little further and the double-breasted theme didn’t stop at the blazer and coat but the DB vest have made a huge impact as well. So much so that it’s our call that the vest will actually have a bigger impact than the blazer for the simple fact that you can already wear the vest with most of the single-breasted suits you’ve already been wearing, it just adds an extra element of style. Particularly with the colder weather the added layer is not a hindrance but in some cases a necessity. More over it can allow you maintain that slimmer look rather than add the added bulk of a heavy jacket.
MMOT Style Counsel – Add a small chain, pocket watch, or trinket that connects to one of the buttons on the vest which adds an element of style that makes statement of sophistication, especially if your plaid pattern is on the larger side.
