This Valentines Day Don’t Drop The Bushel

Ok guys, since we can be honest with each other here it’s time to admit that Valentines Day is not our favorite time of the year but conversely it is a huge opportunity to make some major deposits into the “relationship bank” if you play the game correctly. So, we wanted to give you all the necessary info to make sure the special person on your VDay list goes to bed thinking you’re greatest thing in their life and make sure you don’t fumble the ball going over the goal line.

Firstly, get on it early and don’t wait until game day or even the day before to try and get an order in. You run the risk of your flowers not being delivered on time or the florist being sold out of what you want. Remember, there are no Mulligans in this game, if you miss the date not excuse or reason will suffice to get you out of the dog house, and it’s been really cold this Winter!

Next, you need to know what you’re doing when it comes to ordering. For example, if you’re not officially dating it may not be appropriate to send a dozen red roses to the office. True red is the color of love but for early courting a paler tube rose would be a better fit. You can mix in white roses with the red once there have been commitments exchanged but before that you should stick to the lighter colors if you must go with roses but also consider something fragrant like morning glories, accented with rosemary or lavender. They last a long time and the aroma will keep you in the back of the mind even when you’re not there which is one of the sneaky bi-products of Valentines Day. Also, unless you met this person at the gym and sharing workouts is what you have in common, then VDay candy is an excellent choice that is neither too formal, presumptuous, or tacky.

Now of course if you have a special someone, an established ‘significant other’ then you simply gotta’ get the work done. Don’t skimp, don’t procrastinate, make the call early to order in. Trust me on this guys, the recipient may make it seem like it’s common place but rest assured it’s far from it. If you are sending them to your wife who works in an office environment the last thing you want is her being the only one who doesn’t the loud announcement “oh, she sits over there” and have the delivery person bring the vase to her desk so everyone can see. The arrival is actually more significant than the product in this case, but just the same you can’t go wrong with a dozen red roses. True, it’s industry standard, but in this situation you may be better off playing it close to the vest. Particularly if you aren’t familiar with floral arrangements you could order something that looks good in your head, or online, but when it arrives might have some heads tilting as if to say “what was he thinking?”. If you want to be really creative then have that waiting for her when she gets home as an added bonus with a hand written card that tells her that she is extra special so she deserves something extra special.

Speaking of extra special, if you really want to go the extra mile a box of chocolates says that the way nothing else can. Add that to the flowers and you would upstage anyone and make your special valentines the envy of the office. But better yet, you can also save that for home so you can get your “thank you” immediately and in person.
